Another day at the library

I morphed into a Simpsons character and actually got it published in my blog. It worked!

Wiki

I think the idea of a wiki could be a very good thing. I like that it is a collective community on various topics, books, etc. It is quick, current, and people are able to give their input instantly. I really liked the SJCPL Wiki subject guide. I loved how it was set up and how much information was available. I also thought the ALA Midwinter 2007 Wiki was great too. It had all kinds of pertinent information regarding the conference, but also had a place for questions and responses to the questions - responses that anyone could make. In the library I can see it as very valuable - when researching a subject, trying to find a "mystery" book with no title or author, giving staff current information about what is going on at the library, etc.

I heard a lot of positive comments about this website. It looks like it could be very useful for a variety of reasons. It could be useful for cataloging as well as giving me all kinds of information regarding specific books and reviews. I will be revisiting this site. Browsing through del.icio.us, it looks like it could be very helpful. I'm not sure how much I will use it at the moment, but it seems like it could be useful. Tagging and sharing sounds like a good thing, as well as being able to use your bookmarks at any computer.

My Space and Facebook

Interesting how Facebook has really grown in the 18-25 year old range. It definitely sounds like a place to reach that age range.

I checked Libraryman blog and Librarian in Black's blog. Never really thought that some kids might not want us "invading" their space. It makes sense that we keep up with what's happening in their world.

I am alright with libraries participating in social networking sites. I do wonder how much our Myspace account is really used.

Searching in RSS

I found Google Blog Search to be the easiest to search. I also tried Blogline search and Feedster and Topix.net. In most searches, the results were a bit broad. But, I did manage to find a few blogsites that might be helpful.

Learning about RSS

I learned a bit about RSS feeds today. I think it could be useful in keeping up with the most current news and information. Currently, I've mainly used emails to get the latest. (I still like reading the newspaper every morning too, rather than news websites.) Maybe that will change. I see how this could save a lot of time.
